NORMAN – Making his collegiate debut, Oklahoma men’s gymnastics freshman Yul Moldauer took the all-around title at the Rocky Mountain Open (RMO) with a mark of 90.150, a tournament record. The performance earned Moldauer NCAA Gymnast of the Week honors, the NCAA announced Thursday.
Moldauer’s debut performance leaves him in first place nationally in all-around scoring, a full 1.150 points ahead of second place. The Arvada, Colo., native also took home the event title on parallel bars with a score of 15.600, which tied the RMO record set by teammate Sergey Resnick in 2014. Moldauer also placed third on floor with a 15.600, tied for third on vault with a 15.200 and placed third on high bar with a 14.650.
OU’s newest standout helped lead the top-ranked Sooners to a team mark of 448.350 at the RMO, including a floor mark of 77.900 and a vault score of 76.100. Oklahoma’s team total would have been its fourth highest during the 2015 national championship season, and its marks on floor and vault would have ranked second and first in 2015, respectively.
The Sooners are back in action Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. CT as they hit the road to face No. 10 Michigan. In last year’s win over the Wolverines, Oklahoma set the NCAA single-meet scoring record with a team mark of 456.400. That record did not last long as OU went on to score 457.300 two weeks later against Illinois.
